Nature Spring Walk, Rock Caistor – Shortlisted by Tesco Community Grants
The Rock Foundation UK is delighted to announce our application to the Tesco Community Grants Scheme has been shortlisted. This means that our Nature Spring Walk project at our Caistor Site will be put forward to a customer vote in Tesco’s Superstore at Market Rasen.
Originally known as Tesco Bags of Help, it has now changed to Tesco Community Grants which funds thousands of local community projects across the UK. The aim is to help fight holiday hunger, tackle mental health, support young people, host community events and much more.
Voting will commence in store from Mid January 2023 and continue until the end of March 2023. Please use the Tokens at Tesco Market Raisen to vote for Rock 😍
We wanted to give all our supporters the heads up as we are very excited about the benefits there could be for a wide variety of people in this region.
The Vision
Set in 6 acres of meadow, the trail leads down to 5 natural springs where our students and volunteers are developing a picnic area, which local people (young and old alike) can enjoy. Along the trail we will create stopping points for less mobile visitors to sit and enjoy the tranquil surroundings and fresh air. Picnic tables, benches and bins for dog waste and litter will encourage people to spend quality time in the tranquil setting, enjoying the health benefits of the countryside and local nature.
The picnic tables and benches will be manufactured in the wood workshop of Rock Foundation UK Ltd in Grimsby. This will provide a practical show case of the quality of craftsmanship our learning disabled students achieve, whilst promoting intergenerational activity, which can be enjoyed by parents and toddlers and members of the older generation also. The well-documented lasting effects on mental and physical health of the Covid 19 Pandemic provides clear evidence of the need for this project.
Our core purpose is to enable our students to reach their full potential as valued individuals. We work to help develop their skills, capacities and capabilities. We provide educational, social, recreational and leisure time activities that will enable our students to participate and contribute in society to the very best of their ability. We offer a wide variety of training workshops where our students learn new skills and through positive interaction with the local community, they also feel respected and valued.
Our plan is to create a welcoming place in natural surroundings in which interaction with the community can be enhanced; members of the community benefiting from the work of our students and our students increasing their self-worth and self-esteem by seeing the value of their skills to the wider community.
We are sharing this Tesco video as it mentions all the positive community projects that they like to support:
