Rock Parents / Carers Support Group

When: It runs every other Friday @ 1pm – 3pm
Venue: Rock, 39-41 Heneage Road, Grimsby, DN32 9ES

What started as a group to meet up for a chat with a hot drink and cake, developed into a group of volunteers. Between us all we have a wide range of experience and are happy to help each other. We have a rota to help out on Rock’s reception desk. We are also involved in fundraising, helping out at the Christmas nativity, manning stalls and doing the raffles.

Our goal this year is to raise funds for a 9 seater minibus for the students at Rock Foundation UK.

Below are some short bio’s where we share who we are:

Ursula & Anthony Kiedyk
“We moved to Grimsby from the Cambridge area in 2004. Ursula previously worked as a Secretary / PA and Anthony had worked in Warehousing & Driving, on moving to Grimsby we became foster carers. Anthony worked initially in Stores and then trained to become a Learner Assistant for The Linkage and then at Kisimul residential school for young adults with learning difficulties. We adopted the last 3 children we fostered, the eldest being Rick who now attends The Rock Foundation.

The support group has been a lifeline to us both, as we both now have our own disabilities & health issues. It’s a friendly non-judgemental group and we have formed great friendships as a result. “

Ian Baxter & Caz Baxter
“I was born in a little village called Ibstock in Leicestershire I have worked in hospitality and I have worked in hospitals as a porter. My main job was in hotel and restaurant management in Scotland. Caz, our daughter D’anne and I moved to Grimsby in June 2021. D’anne started going to the Rock Foundation in July.

“I was born in Gainsborough Lincolnshire, we moved to Grimsby in June 2021.
I have worked as a care assistant and a secondary school dinner lady.
I have 5 children, D’anne is the youngest who attends the Rock.
The parent and carers support group has helped us with advice and made some really good friends.”

Maryanne Billings
“I was born and bred in grimsby. My dad was a fisherman and my mum also worked in the fishing industry…
I was a pharmacy assistant on and off for over 15 years while bring up my 4 beautiful children ❤️
I eventually had a career change and started helping and supporting women / men and their families overcome and escape domestic abuse.

I’ve always had a passion for helping people… unfortunately I became poorly over five years ago and have struggled with physical disabilities which has gravely impacted on my life.

I have a son who attends the rock foundation, he’s been going there for over 4 years and in that time i’ve seen him develop so much. I really wanted to give something back to the community so being part of the parents group at the rock has been amazing for me. I’ve met some truly good friends and caring people. Our meetings are something I very much look forward to, helping out with various events at the Rock and planning raffles. Being part of this organisation is truly everything to me, it’s given me purpose and a great feeling of belonging.
