There is real excitement in the air of Day Services at the Rock Foundation. The new Tea Room at Heneage Road, Grimsby, was launched in February 2026, after a long awaited re-furbishment.

The new venue will help to give students with additional needs vital life skills as they help out with the day-to-day running of the tea room. It is another social enterprise project that help’s Rock Foundation to raise vital funds which help with the running costs of our organisation.

Our CEO and Founder, Pam Hodge, said, “We are absolutely delighted to open our new Tea Room, It’s been a long time coming and it’s modernised the whole building as well, opening it up completely. We have reasonable and competitive prices.

“We have had a Tea Room at our Caistor Site for five or six years and it’s been a great success so we have based the new one at Heneage Road, Grimsby, on the same model. We wanted to do something really nice for the students here and they have be itching to get involved, they’re all very keen and excited. Visitors can also see some of the other things we do, we have some of our woodwork and laser work displayed which is available to purchase as well as our sweet shop.”

Rock Foundation Student, Alischa, who will be working in the tea room, cut the ribbon for its official opening. She said: “It was fantastic doing the opening and I am really excited to be working here at the Rock, I will be helping with serving teas coffees and cakes.”

As well as tea and coffee, the new Tea Room will be selling cakes, paninis, quiche and side salads, cupcakes, soup and bread, scones with jam and cream, crumble and custard and they are also looking at adding jacket potatoes to the menu in the near future.

Day Services Manager Sam Palmer said: “This will help give our students those life experiences and skills in a work placement. It also increases their confidence as well as helping with references for their future.

“It is a work setting so students will be learning skills in hospitality as well as front and back of house. We still sell our Laser engraved custom gifts on our Etsy store but now we are displaying and selling in here too. We also do personalised gifts in our laser and woodwork rooms so people can come in and order the products that the students have put their time and effort into making.”

The Tea Room will be open at The Rock Foundation, Heneage Road Monday to Friday 10:30am until 3pm. They are also offering a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea for £10 which can be booked in advance by calling 01472 488026 or get in touch via our website.

Thank you to the Wolfson Foundation for funding this project

This project was made possible with funding from Wolfson Foundation who granted £60,000, enabling Rock Foundation UK Ltd to undertake a major refurbishment of Heneage Road. It included transforming the reception area into an open plan, reception, tearoom and retail display area. This forms Phase 1 and will contribute towards Phase 2 of the project which is to undertake a full refurbishment of the cottage kitchen and laundry areas (independence living skills workshops).

The tearoom project is in ‘partnership’ with Alzheimer’s UK and Creating Positive Opportunity. It will provide a venue for the carers and the people living with dementia to visit for their support group outings. This will provide the students of Heneage Road with the real life working experience that they otherwise are excluded from. On behalf of Rock Foundation UK, we are extremely grateful to Wolfson Foundation for their generosity.
