Rock wins funding from Delamere Dairy Foundation for Allotment Pack-house project

Rock was very fortunate to be awarded a grant of £4,384.64 from Delamere Dairy Foundation, a registered charity which helps young people mature into valued members of society. This funding is to provide a new and extended project on the grounds of our Community Allotment. The students of the Day Services are able to harvest and pack the produce of the allotment into packages with labels displaying their name, for example, “packed by John” and the date of packaging.

The project overseen by our star volunteer, Digby, involves the provision of the shed for the students (and Digby and the staff support) to take shelter during the inclement weather, while they pack the produce. Everyone is delighted as we certainly do get plenty of wet and windy weather on the Caistor hilltop!

And this isn’t just any new shed… it’s our Caistor Rock pack-house, for use by our resident and day-care students to prepare fresh vegetables for sale to our tea-room customers.

This week we have been busy giving it four coats of an oil-based paint, to ensure it still looks as good as new in 50 years.

The pack-house was designed and erected by local company Mitchell’s Timberworks.
