An update on the Hillside Market Garden at Rock Foundation Caistor
When you buy the vegetables we grow at our Caistor Rock market garden, there’s every chance they were harvested only minutes before. That’s why they taste so good.
And there’s another reason: we carefully select the varieties we grow for their outstanding tenderness and taste, rather than for their yield potential. It makes a huge difference.
For instance we grow almost exclusively Nicola potatoes, from certified seed supplied directly by a farm in Dundee. You won’t find this variety in most garden centres but it’s truly outstanding for both taste and versatility (as our regulars know).
Serve Nicola new potatoes with butter and salad (highly recommended), or later in the season you can mash them, chip them, or bake them… whatever takes your fancy. They’re simply wonderful, whichever way you serve them.
Our first Nicola earlies will be available soon on our market stall (always offered with a sprig of mint), so keep your eye out for them. Currently we’re offering Caistor spring leeks, rhubarb and White Lisbon salad onions. Soon to come: asparagus, strawberries and red onions.
Our fresh produce is sold by donation. We ask our customers to pay a fair price, and you always do! Every penny goes to the Rock Foundation charity. Thank you to all our customers for your support.
