Hillside market garden at the Rock Foundation Caistor site

This stunning hillside garden is run by a small team of devoted volunteers who help to manage, maintain and sell the harvest to raise funds for the Caistor Rock Foundation charity. It provides year-round seasonal vegetables, for sale by donation at the entrance to our popular Tea Room, Gift Shop and Sweet Emporium. The garden is also a valuable teaching resource for those of our students who delight in being outdoors whatever the weather on this inspirational but breezy site.

Supplies from the Rock Caistor vegetable plots vary by season and you can expect to see produce on sale from the spring. There are also a variety of plants and bulbs that start to go on sale a little earlier around February / March depending on the weather!

All harvested produce are picked daily for the best taste and freshness and can be found on our Veggie Market Stall which is by the double doors in the main building entrance. This beautiful wooden market cart was built by Rock Foundation students and staff at Grimsby, to the same high standards they employ when making the competitively-priced garden furniture for sale here at Caistor.

The variety of vegetables include: Little Gem lettuce, White Lisbon spring onions, Swift first early new potatoes, Autumn Champion onions, Maestro carrots and much more.

Our strawberries are very sweet and very popular. And this year, for the first time, we’ll have asparagus for sale.

We also grow and sell dwarf beans, runner beans, broad beans, shallots, cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts, broccoli, mint, parsley, beetroot, parsnips, leeks, pumpkins, marrows, rhubarb, gooseberries and blackberries. These are all available in season.

During the winter months, when there are no fresh vegetables to sell, we sell homemade soup, jam, pickles and chutney, all made with produce from the community garden. But it’s first-come-first-served and these items sell out very quickly.

None of our fresh produce has a price on it. Customers pay what they think is a fair price, using the market stall Honesty Box. Payments can also be made by card in the tearooms.

Other facilities open to the public include: Tea Rooms, Family Room, Gift Shop, Sweet Shop, Hand-made Garden Furniture on sale, Community Gardens, Outdoor Workshops and much much more.
